Hi! My name is Dr. Simon Taylor and I provide mental performance consulting to youth athletes, teams, and coaches who are wanting to take their game to the next level. I’m a mental performance consultant with the Canadian Sport Psychology Association.

When we work together, I will introduce you to ways of being mentally flexible, in other words, being able to play no matter what your mind, or your environment throws at you.

Understand your mental struggles, how they affect your game and how to overcome them

What you are experiencing is completely normal

One of my most frustrating experiences on the course was when I was playing well for the majority of the round, and then all of a sudden my game was gone. The easiest way to describe it is that I would feel I was on autopilot, only for that that switch to be flipped.

Even Tiger Woods has shared he faced anxiety in his opening shot of his first PGA Tour as a professional. He said that his “Practice swings were fine.” and that he “got the ball teed up fine, built the stance took it back. And all of a sudden it felt like the club weighed 15 pounds.”.

  • You allow the mental side to affect your game, despite knowing you’re capable of playing to a high standard.

  • You get down on yourself after a bad shot and let that ruin the rest of your round.

  • You overthink days before and have oftentimes already “finished” the race before it’s even begun

The first step is just having the awareness…

You’ve tried following the advice of all those that believe if you “just breath” or tell you “not to be nervous” or to “be more positive” your game will be magically fixed.

But this strategy, or lack of strategy, is not working for you and you know you need more support. That’s where I come in.

There is no magic wand that can magically erase all your nerves and pre-game anxiety…

nor do I want to be able to do that. Part of playing a high-performance sport is being able to get by, despite feeling all those things.

I know what it’s like to feel hopeless and think that maybe you just don’t have what it takes.

As an athlete, you’re always considering a new strategy of how to play the game. So it’s only natural that having mental strategies allows you to feel more comfortable, regardless of what your mind throws your way!

Let me be your guide to navigating these strategies.

I support athletes not only on their bad days but on their good days too.

I have played golf at the highest level as an amateur, competing at international events across the globe, and at a Division I university in the NCAA.

Nerves and anxiety are a normal part of playing the game, but everyone has a threshold that when crossed can become disruptive. I experienced a level of nerves that played a crucial role in the future of my athletic career. It was easy to let it consume my identity on the course as well as be a discouragement off the field.

Everything changed when I started to practice mental awareness in regards to my game, it showed up not only mentally but physically.

I realized that in bringing understanding to why I was feeling these nerves I discovered a new interest, mental flexibility. This new interest drove me to study the mind and I received my Ph.D. in sport psychology and joined the Canadian Sport Psychology Association shortly after. This allowed me to not just bring a deep understanding to what was going on in my head, but now I could help others.

And I want to help you achieve mental resiliency and responsiveness too.

If you are wanting to move past the hurdles of your mind that keep you from performing or thinking strategically when it counts, and if you want to learn skills that will help you beyond your athletic career – let’s talk.

“It’s been great to collaborate with Simon over the years with some of the best juniors in the province. His approach is very professional and the players respond to him well. He does a great job of introducing players to new concepts and getting them to implement it in their practice immediately. If you are looking to add to your game, Simon would be a great addition and help you get to the next level.”
